Institute for the International Education of Students (IES)

IES awards over $5 million each year in need- and merit-based scholarships to students participating in IES programs. IES also offers awards to minority students and students from liberal arts universities.


CIEE offers over $8 million each year in both need and merit-based scholarships for students participating in a CIEE program.  Grants are also available to students intending to do multiple non-consecutive CIEE programs, as well as to siblings of CIEE program alumni.

Bard Smolny

Lawrence students participating in the Bard program at Smolny College will automatically receive a 17% discount on standard program tuition.  Bard also offers a variety of additional scholarships for participants.


Lawrence students participating in approved AMIDEAST programs will will automatically receive a 5% discount on program fees.  AMIDEAST provides scholarships for program participants that range from $500 to $5,000.  Students also have the opportunity to apply to be a blog correspondent for their time abroad and earn an additional scholarship of $500 for a summer or $1,000 for a semester.  More information about AMIDEAST scholarships can be found here.


IFSA offers scholarships primarily for students with demonstrated financial need, as well as scholarships for First Generation College Students and students traditionally underrepresented in study abroad programs. 

CET Academic Programs

CET academic programs offers need-based scholarships to students participating in any CET academic program.  Each year, over $300,000 in scholarships are awarded.

Carleton Global Engagement

Students participating in a program through Carleton Global Engagement can apply for need-based scholarships to support program costs.

Japan Study

Japan Study offers need-based scholarships to accepted students.  Please contact your program advisor for more information. 

SEA Semester

SEA Semester scholarships include a $7,500 Presidential Scholarship and a $5,000 merit-based Dean's Award.  SEA awards over $1 million in scholarships each year. They offer an automatic $2,500 discount for students whose home institutions are on a trimester calendar.  Students can also get a discount if they are referred by a student who has previously participated in a SEA Semester program. 

Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad

The Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad provides more than $2 million per year in financial aid and need-based scholarships, ranging between $500 and $2,000. More information is available here.

College Year in Athens (CYA)

College Year in Athens offers scholarships for students applying for a semester or academic year and are customarily awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to approximately half the amount of tuition. Information is available here.

Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs (HECUA)

HECUA offers $750 Community Engagement scholarships, a $1,500 Scholarship for Social Justice, and a Scholarship for Racial Justice up to $4,000.  Because Lawrence is an affiliate member of the HECUA organization, any Lawrence student participating in a HECUA program will receive an affiliate membership discount off of the standard program rates.

School for Field Studies (SFS)

The School for Field Studies awards more than $450,000 in need-based scholarships and grants each year and about 90% of students who apply for SFS aid receive it.

Many program providers offer scholarships for students on their programs. Check with your program’s provider to see if you are eligible to apply for any scholarships directly through them. This list is not comprehensive and other program providers may offer scholarships in addition to those listed.
