About the Renovations
Renovations began with raising and widening the field in order to accommodate a soccer pitch. With these changes, the men’s and women’s soccer teams join football in calling the Banta Bowl home. The natural grass surface was replaced with FieldTurf, an artificial surface that allows for more and varied use of the stadium.
The fan experience has been greatly improved with an inviting entry plaza at the north end of the stadium and new aluminum grandstand seating, which can accommodate over 3,600 people. There is also a new LED scoreboard. The Gilboy Athletic Center is a beautiful new building, which is a significant upgrade. It houses the Lawrence Vikings locker room, a visiting team room, the training room, concessions, bathrooms and ticketing.
The renovation took six months to complete, with the field and stands completed in mid-August, right before men’s and women’s fall soccer and football games kicked off. The Gilboy Athletic Center was completed two weeks later, in time for the rededication ceremony, which was held on October 17, 2015.
