The Lawrence Department of Athletics is proud to announce an exciting plan to take Vikings athletics to the next level—a campaign to raise $4.5 million to renovate the Banta Bowl. David C. Blowers ’82 and Dr. Charles A. McKee ’68 are co-chairing the campaign.

Blowers was a standout football player, captain of the Vikings during his junior and senior years, and member of a team that won three Midwest Conference Championships in a row, during his sophomore through senior years, with the 1981 team making it all the way to the NCAA Division III semi-finals. He is a member of the Lawrence University Board of Trustees.

McKee, the university physician at Lawrence, was a standout in football and track for the Vikings. As a quarterback on the football team, McKee earned All-Midwest Conference honors three times and was a first-team Associated Press All-American in 1967. McKee was part of Midwest Conference championship football squads in 1966 and 1967. The Appleton native also won six individual Midwest Conference track championships.

The Lawrence coaching staff attracts quality athletes who again and again prove to be stars in the classroom as well. From soccer standout Cassie Burke ’13 to cross country and track champion Sam Stevens ’13, Lawrence student-athletes consistently show that athletic success and academic achievement go hand-in-hand. With our student-athletes playing leading roles on the campus and in the community, it reinforces our belief that the content of their character is every bit as important as their athletic skill.
