During SI, you will be fully immersed in life at Lawrence through academics, introduced to staff and departments on campus to assist you, social events with your peers and Program Assistants, and time to develop your own schedule.

In order to know where to be and when, SI participants can see a calendar at the link below which is updated daily as needed. Participants will also receive a paper copy upon the start of the program, but are encouraged to use the link below every morning to see if any changes have been implemented for that day (rain-site for outdoor activities, workshop is canceled or changed, etc.).

Activate LU Network Account before Arriving

Beginning on August 1, all information and updates for SI will be sent to your LU e-mail address, so you will need to set up your LU network login and e-mail access if you have not yet done so. Most communication from the university and specifically from your professors will also come to your LU e-mail, so it’s important to develop the habit of checking your LU email regularly.  PLEASE NOTE:  Your LU e-mail has a long form and a short form, typically yourfirstname.yourlastname@lawrence.edu and LUusername@lawrence.edu respectively. This sometimes causes some confusion, but both addresses send messages to the same place, so you don’t need to worry about checking two different addresses. LU asks that you use the long form to avoid revealing your network username to others.

Arrival & Check-In | Sunday, August 18, 8 a.m. - Noon

Notes on your arrival and check-in:

  • Please arrive to campus on Sunday, August 18 between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in order to check in before noon. Due to flight scheduling, some international students may need to arrive on Saturday, August 16.
  • If you require check-in after Noon on Sunday, August 18, please contact the director with your arrival date/time to campus and reason for late arrival, and she will advise you on your check-in plan.
  • There may be campus improvement construction and maintenance projects nearing completion during the weeks leading up to the first day of Fall Term that you may need to navigate. Please observe precautions and obey all safety signage, fencing, and cones.
  • Check-in will be open from 8 a.m.-Noon at Warch Campus Center located at 711 E. Boldt Way. To manage the flow of people and vehicles arriving that day, please park near your residence hall building, and walk to Warch Campus Center to check in and get keys.

Moving In

You will be able to move your items in and get settled between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Most of our residence halls do NOT have elevators, so please plan accordingly with your items, the size of any totes or boxes you bring, etc. More information for first-year students will be coming via your Lawrence email address regarding housing and planning your move/what to bring for your room, so please check your Lawrence email. Please be sure to activate your Lawrence network account to get access to your email.

Plan for Parents/Guardians/Family

There will a gathering on Main Hall Green (between locations 14 and 27 on Campus Map) for participants and their families to meet the Program Assistant staff from 1-3 p.m. There will be a welcome and orientation session for students and their families at 3 p.m. in our Chapel (location 19 on Campus Map), followed by an opportunity for families to have a Q&A with the directors and leadership of Summer Institute. This will also be when we ask people to say their goodbyes to students, as the students will be going off to start further orientation sessions for Summer Institute to get them ready for class the following day.
