Examining the world through German Studies strengthens your critical thinking skills, language proficiency and intercultural awareness.

Many German Studies students use their education in a variety of fields in and beyond the United States. Many majors pursue careers in education and teaching. There are also opportunities to research or teach abroad after graduation as German Studies students are frequently recipients of prestigious Fulbright fellowships. 

Many career paths are possible, from education to nonprofit advocacy,  government and public administration to business and finance in multinational organizations, as well as opportunities in diplomatic careers like foreign service and translation and interpretation.  You can also earn advanced degrees in a wide variety of fields including the humanities, law, medicine, music, or advanced cultural and language studies.
