Global Ambassadors Program

The Global Ambassadors Program works on recruiting upperclassmen international student leaders to mentor a group of incoming international students through International Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Fall, and Winter terms. International Ambassadors help new international students and global nomads transition to life at Lawrence, providing mentorship, friendship, and cultural support to a cohort of first-year students. Ambassadors are expected to focus on strengthening our community that celebrates individual differences and inclusivity.

Program Purpose

  • The program is designed to support and integrate international students into a new academic or cultural environment. The purpose of such a program is to provide guidance, foster community, and ease the transition for students coming from different countries or cultures. Key goals include:

    1. Cultural Adjustment: Helping international students adapt to a new cultural environment, understand local customs, and overcome any culture shock.

    1. Academic Support: Offering advice on navigating academic systems, such as understanding grading systems, academic expectations, and time management.

    1. Social Integration: Encouraging international students to build friendships, join campus activities, and feel more connected to their peers, making the experience less isolating.

    1. Language Assistance: Providing opportunities for language practice and improving communication skills, especially in English or the local language.

    1. Personal Development: Supporting students in their personal growth, confidence, and independence by fostering a sense of belonging and self-reliance.

    1. Providing Resources: Sharing useful information about university services, local amenities, legal rights, and other practical matters that might be unfamiliar to international students.

Overall, the program helps international students feel more comfortable, engaged, and supported in their new academic journey. Global ambassadors play a vital role by offering advice, emotional support, and sharing their own experiences, making the process smoother for newcomers.

Hi! I’m Wardah Basil—I joined Lawrence in 2024 and I’m rolling into junior year this fall like it’s the opening scene of a feel-good movie. I’m a film major and a data science minor, which basically means I love making cool videos and nerding out over numbers. Best of both worlds!

I was born and raised in Pakistan, and I’ve been obsessed with cameras, creativity, and chasing big dreams since forever. I want to do everything in life—even the goals that sound totally ridiculous. Luckily, I’ve got the best hype team: my parents (shoutout to them!).

Fun facts:

  • I take photos like my snacks are supermodels.
  • Tried to make a film starring my cat—he quit mid-scene.
  • Chai > coffee. No debate.
  • I’m all about big ideas, big laughs, and turning everyday moments into movie magic.

Let’s make life weird, wild, and wonderful!

  • I enjoy trying to make people laugh! Smiling and laughing are big energy sources!

As much as you are excited to come to Lawrence, I am also excited to welcome you!

As always, simple is best.

Hi, my name is Dennis Boakye, you can call me Den. I am from Ghana, studying neuroscience and with a minor in mathematics (I actually love math). I am also on the premed track, hoping to attend medical school after Lawrence. I play the drums and love music! Fun fact, I used to make beats/instrumentals of music, and I actually came to Lawrence with music in mind. I therefore love the conservatory, it is so cool.

Hi - my name is Nhi Hoang Quach. I am an incoming senior year and have been at Lawrence since the summer of 2022 where I was a part of 2 summer programs before the start of the academic year, Decoda and Summer Institute. I am a dual degree student, pursuing a degree in Piano Performance as well Economics with a minor in Piano Pedagogy.

I am originally from Hanoi, Vietnam. I really miss being able to have all the Vietnamese food I want, but at least I am escaping the heat of Vietnamese summers!

3 things that I love: Bún Chả (Vietnamese meatballs with rice noodles), Rachmaninoff, and Vienna (especially their pastries).
