Volunteers in Tutoring at Lawrence (VITAL)

The Volunteers in Tutoring at Lawrence (VITAL) program serves K-12 grade students in the Appleton Area School District. We are committed to ensuring that all tutors and tutees have the most productive and academically effective sessions as possible. VITAL fully commits to providing families with the best tutors to leave tutees in more sound academic standings.

We are currently accepting requests for the 2021-22 school year and will assign tutors on a first-come, first-serve basis. We cannot guarantee that every request will be filled, but we will do our best to support as many students as possible. In addition to Lawrence University student volunteers, we have collaborated with retired teachers, community members, and Lawrence University alumni to help meet students’ needs in innovative and flexible ways.

Due to COVID-19, the VITAL program will be operating in a hybrid model. Families and volunteers will decide which modality they are comfortable with, and this question will be included in the request form and tutoring application.

All in-person tutoring will occur in the Lawrence University Seeley G. Mudd Library, and only those who have been fully vaccinated will be allowed to participate in person. Unvaccinated tutors/tutees will need to conduct their tutoring virtually. Following Lawrence University's COVID-19 protocol, everyone in public indoor spaces will need to be masked regardless of vaccination status. Community members participating in the VITAL program are considered "organized guests" under this protocol.

Meet the Equal Access to Education Program Coordinator: Molly Ruffing "Hello, everyone! This is officially my second rodeo running the VITAL program, and I’m ecstatic to continue to learn alongside all those involved in this program! My service goal is to defend potential, and I truly see the VITAL Program as an amazing avenue to do so in the Appleton community. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by emailing community.engagement@lawrence.edu."
