The harp studio at Lawrence is designed to provide exceptional instruction and performance opportunities for the accomplished harpist interested in pursuing a BA degree. While Lawrence does not offer a BM in Harp performance, the program is designed to take the aspiring harpist to the highest levels of pre-professional training. Large ensemble opportunities include the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, the Lawrence Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Choirs. Students will also be able to participate in chamber ensembles, new music works, and the Lawrence Harp Ensemble.
The studio is taught by Leila Ramagopal Pertl, who has led a highly successful private harp studio for the past 15 years and has studied with Elizabeth Borsodi, Alice Keene, Paula Page, and the late Alice Chalifoux. Leila works closely with her students to combine technical mastery with exceptional musicality while exposing them to a broad range of ensemble and solo harp repertoire. In order for her students to gain a deeper connection with their instrument while preparing theme for the challenges and opportunities that await a 21st century harpist, Leila also blends improvisation into her curriculum.
