Always consult with your advisor for course selection. Failure to do so may result in taking classes that will not fulfill major requirements.

IMPORTANT: If students take off-campus courses with a primary focus on pre-professional training or recreational activities, these credits transfer as general Lawrence units, but they cannot fulfill major or minor requirements in Spanish.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION OF SPANISH MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

1. Completion of ten standard courses (or a minimum of 60 units), including:

  • Spanish 202 or one Spanish class numbered at the 300-level (depending on placement)
  • Two Spanish courses numbered at the 300 level
  • Two Spanish courses numbered at the 400 level
  • Four Spanish courses numbered at the 500 level
  • One elective, to choose from:
    • Six units of Spanish courses numbered at the 400 level or above
    • Six units of internship
    • Six units of the following approved courses in other departments or programs:

2. Approval of the completed Senior Experience: Spanish Multimedia Portfolio (see Moodle page "SPAN e-ports" for detailed information).

3. A minimum grade average of C in courses required for the Spanish major.

4. Completion of at least five courses for the major on campus, including two Spanish 500-level classes. (See "Study Abroad" section for equivalence of off-campus courses.)

5. Completion of at least eight courses in the major that have Spanish as the sole or primary language of instruction, communication and coursework.
