Singer Pur - The Sound of Beauty
Tuesday, Oct. 13, 8:00 p.m.
Lawrence Memorial Chapel
Singer Pur (“Pure Singing”), hailed as one of the finest vocal ensembles in the world, brings its unique sound and superb musicianship to Lawrence in The Sound of Beauty, a program of the most beautiful choral music being composed today. The three-time winners of the Echo-Klassiek Prize—the German “Grammy”—will perform an all-a cappella program that ranges from contemporary compositions inspired by the great Renaissance cathedral choirs of Europe to the music of Sting. Founded by former members of the renowned Regensburg Cathedral Boys’ Choir, the vocal sextet has dazzled audiences in more than forty countries worldwide, including world premiere performances at Europa Cantat, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, York Festival of Contemporary Music, and the Schwetzinger Festspiele. The concert will include works by Hildegard, Metcalf, Bryars, Moody, Pärt, Brahms, Lasso, Rihm, Sting, Ligeti, and Gershwin. The ensemble will present the world premiere of "Ode on Solitude” by Dominic Ellis ’17.
The Composition Studio of the Lawrence Conservatory of Music provides the opportunity for composers to study composition at a nationally recognized conservatory of music and selective liberal arts college. Our students receive comprehensive pre-professional training in music composition and we emphasize frequent performances of students' instrumental and vocal chamber music. We also provide exceptional opportunities for orchestral and large ensemble readings and performance.
