Program Overview
The Percussion program focuses on developing and exposing students to a diverse array of knowledge and traditions from multiple parts of the world. While also deeply focusing on classical contemporary solo and chamber percussion. Students have the opportunity to lead ensembles, both contemporary and world. Through the senior experience funds, students have gone to countries like Ghana and Puerto Rico, to name a few, and come back to lead an ensemble with the gained knowledge during their research. We thrive in giving the students an opportunity to develop their skill at the highest level in both western and nonwestern, to reflect the tools needed to be successful 21st century percussionists.

Types of Degrees
Students can pursue a Bachelor in percussion performance. A minor in percussion pedagogy is also available.

Learning Spaces
Students have access to six percussion dedicated practice spaces, with professional rated percussion instruments. One of which is a large percussion studio space generally used for multipercussion set ups and chamber groups rehearsals. And two of the rooms are equipped with sound systems.
In addition, the students have access to a vast collection of instruments utilized in traditions from Brazil, Puerto Rico, Ghana, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago, and the Middle East. Students use these instruments for our world percussion classes that focus on the traditions from these countries, and for collaboration with our large ensembles like the Afro Brazilian collaboration with Jazz Band.
Students get the opportunity to apply for work study through the percussion department, to help with logistics and maintenance in the studio alongside faculty.
