In April of 2018, the Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble's long standing reputation as one of America's finest collegiate jazz groups was reaffirmed when Downbeat Magazine named LUJE as the "Undergraduate College Winner" in the Downbeat Student Music Awards large jazz ensemble category. This was the fourth time in its history LUJE has been honored by DownBeat, and LUJE members have repeatedly been cited for the Best Original Composition/Extended Composition Award, Best Jazz Arrangement Award, and Outstanding Jazz Instrumental Solo Performance Award. Under the direction of Patty Darling, LUJE performs and records frequently throughout the school year, presenting cutting edge large ensemble literature, historically significant works, Lawrence student and faculty compositions and arrangements, and accompanying visiting jazz solo artists (see Jazz Weekend for list of guest artists).

All large ensemble concerts performed in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel can be enjoyed around the world through our live, four camera video webcasts.
