Information For Parents and Friends

Friends of Crew

Friends of Crew is a new program in 2009 for supporters, alumni, and parents of rowers. With this program, we hope to be able to have an organized group of individuals to support the team at regattas by cheering, providing post-race food, and helping the team out in general. In addition, Friends of Crew will receive a semi-regular newsletter with updates about the team, information about events, and more. To join the Friends of Crew list, contact Morgan Edwards-Fligner .

Support

Although we receive funding from the Lawrence University Community Council and charge yearly dues, your financial support plays a significant role in our continued existence. Through donations from parents and crew supporters through the recent years, in addition to funding from LUCC, we have been able to raise money to allow us to purchase new equipment. Previous purchases include:

  • Drakkar - Men's Open-weight 4+ (Winter 2006)
  • Women's Varsity Oars (Spring 2005)
  • Rik & Margot Warch - Women's 8+ (Spring 2004)
  • Spirit of Milwaukee-Downer II- Women's lightweight 4+ (Fall 2006)

Thanks to help from LUCC and a generous donation by the parents of Brandon Cernohous '11, we have been able to purchase the 2009 Vespoli Matrix 31 2x/-. This boat is a valuable addition to our fleet and we look forward to the years of rowing and racing it will provide.

Through fundraising and the sale of old equipment, we were able to purchase a new trailer in the Spring of 2011. Our previous trailer was outdated and unsafe, and with our new trailer, we can be sure our fleet will always be safe on the road!

Rent-A-Rower

Members of the community can hire rowers for a variety of tasks (yard-work, moving, snow removal, etc.) for $10/hr. Each rower is responsible for approximately $220 in annual dues in addition to clothing and Spring Break costs. The money earned goes towards paying off these expenses. If you would like to inquire about the Rent-A-Rower Program, please contact our Finance Chair, Will Gislason.
