Mr. Powell has been playing music for about sixty years, and horn for 50 of those years! He is in demand as a free-lance player in several orchestras including the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Marquette (Michigan) Symphony, and the Weidner Philharmonic. He is a frequent guest with the Fox Valley Symphony in Appleton. Mr. Powell has performed with such notables as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Bernadette Peters, Richard Leach, Robert Page, Lambchop (with Sherry Lewis), and a slew of others. He has prepared students who have gone on to fulfilling professional careers. His teaching activities, in addition to Lawrence University, include Marion College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Powell has a master's Degree in Music Composition from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. His works have been performed by orchestras and chamber ensembles in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and elsewhere. His work Suite Marquette was premiered in June of this year. He composed Melting Point/Melting Pot Overture for the Central Wisconsin Symphony for its April, 2024 concerts.
