Saxophone students at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music have numerous opportunities to perform works from the full spectrum of saxophone repertoire. In addition to playing works for solo saxophone, saxophone and piano, and saxophone and computer or electronic music, they perform in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Band, Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Music Ensemble, saxophone quartets, saxophone ensemble (6-20 saxophonists), chamber ensembles of mixed instrumentation, and jazz combos. They regularly participate in regional and national performance competitions and professional conferences.
The saxophone studio is committed to the development of new repertoire for the saxophone. The studio commissions composers to write works for the saxophone, collaborates each year with the composition department of the Lawrence Conservatory in creating and premiering new works for saxophones, and regularly programs new works by leading composers in recitals throughout the year.
