Music Education Workshop

The Music Education Workshop is an extraordinary opportunity for prospective students to experience hands-on aspects of the Music Education program at Lawrence University.  During the workshop, the music education major is introduced and led by faculty and current music education majors. The workshop sessions will familiarize students with creative and engaging teaching techniques including movement activities, conducting, pedagogical teaching and combining the liberal arts within a practical classroom setting.  Participants will conduct, critique a mock performance, demonstrate elements of music on their primary instruments and teach simple rhythmic or melodic passages to their peers.

While the participating in the workshop is the primary method to be considered for the music education scholarship, it is open to anyone who is interested in pursuing a music education major, or simply want to experience a class with some of the conservatory faculty.  Students will need to bring their instruments to the workshop.

Sessions will include:

  • Improvisation: Keeping it Safe and Simple, led by Matthew Turner
  • Unlocking Potential and Leadership, led by Dr. Matthew Arau
  • With Imagination: Teaching with Creativity, led by Brigetta Miller
