Lawrence University Commuter Student Program

At Lawrence, the college experience looks different for everyone. If you commute to campus, you bring your own rhythm, responsibilities, and perspective, and you are still every bit a part of this community. Our goal is to make sure your experience feels supported, flexible, and connected.

Our Commuter Resources are designed to support your academic, social, and personal success. You’ll have access to practical tools, a dedicated lounge, guidance from campus life staff, and programs that help make Lawrence feel like home.

Who is a commuter student?

A commuter student is anyone who lives at home, typically with a parent, guardian, or family member, meets Lawrence’s commuter admissions requirements (graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA and lives within 25 miles of campus with a parent, guardian, or family member), and has not applied through Direct Admission.

Commuter Experience

Starting college as a commuter means balancing new routines and expectations. Lawrence’s Office of Student Life is here to support you with targeted resources, ways to connect, and the tools you need to navigate campus life.

From securing a locker to attending our Commuter Welcome event during LU Welcome Week, we will help you get settled, meet other commuters, and build your community.

Held during LU Welcome Week, Commuter Welcome is designed for new first-year and transfer commuter students. Meet fellow commuters, explore campus, learn about your resources, and start building connections early.

Throughout the year, we host small-scale gatherings and commuter-specific activities to help you connect, recharge, and get involved. These might include quick meetups, shared meals, or opportunities to join larger campus traditions on your schedule.
