Major

Studio Art

If Lawrence is your first choice, apply by Nov. 1 to receive your admission decision by Dec. 1. Early Decision applicants also receive financial aid offers and select housing early, making senior year feel more settled.

Program Overview

As an art major, you’ll hone your creative identity through hands-on technical instruction and articulate artistic concepts, gaining critical perspectives of a liberal arts education within a supportive community. Your experience pursuing an art degree will immerse you in various media, from traditional bookmaking, using Lawrence’s extensive wooden type collection, to cutting-edge animation and digital visual art in new media. We offer a full sequence of courses (beginning, intermediate, & advanced) in painting, drawing, printmaking, artist books, photography, new media, ceramics, and sculpture.

Program Highlights

Access Lawrence’s art studios 24 hours a day to develop your work, experiment with ideas, and bring projects to life.

Explore contemporary approaches to artmaking while working across traditional methods and emerging tools.

Benefit from small classes and personalized guidance from Studio Art faculty who support your creative growth.

Expand your perspective through visiting artists, exhibitions, field trips, and other opportunities beyond the studio.

Types of Degrees

Students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and have the chance to explore a variety of 2D, 3D, and 4D mediums. Students may also pursue teaching certification (primary & secondary education) in conjunction with the major. A Studio Art Minor is also a popular track for students to pursue.

Advising

At Lawrence, academic advising helps you shape an educational experience that reflects your interests, goals, and aspirations. Your faculty advisor will support you as you plan your path, connect with campus resources and communities, and make informed decisions that prepare you for a meaningful and fulfilling future.
