Lawrence Swing Dance was founded in 1998 by Dane Tice and Suzanne Butz. The club focused on east coast swing, but taught a little Lindy Hop. The LSD became an official Lawrence club in 2001. In 2004, we rediscovered Lindy Hop, and have been teaching and learning ever since. Also in 2004 the Swing House was founded, an on-campus house dedicated to swing. It functions as the main space for routine group practices and lessons, as well as an alternate location for social dances. In 2006 the house became a formal group house, which means that it is officially in cahoots with the LSD club. The house will be dedicated to swing until at least the '08-'09 school year. On campus we have many dedicated members, most recently including 30 freshmen involved in our beginner classes. For more information on the swing house, contact our recruitment chair at amy.m.mccarthy@lawrence.edu.
