Listed below are the currently designated roles and responsibilities of each
director, as well as the Editor-in-Chief.
Business Director
-
Monitors and regulates budget using
Excel or other database program

Drafts and submits budget proposal
to LUCC

Oversees all purchases and fund
transactions

Directly deals with publishing company
(Josten’s representative)

Communicates with Operations Director (and other
Directors) ensuring deadlines being met, volume on schedule

Maintains proper inventory of Ariel
equipment, and documenting other resources available to staff members

Maintains the Ariel website and email
account
-
Maintains Ariel Facebook Group (or
other mode of communication) to ensure proper communication between staff
members regarding Ariel meetings

Gains access for staff to campus
network share space

Produces minutes of meetings and posting
them to Ariel Facebook Group

Attends Publication Board meetings
-
Constantly recruits new members, and
maintains all Ariel member contact and other pertinent information
Photography Director
-
Trains Photography Team on camera use,
picture composition

Facilitates the Photography Team's photo projects
-
Distributes assignments covering all
applicable items on event calendar and nonevent content
-
Checks layout ladder to make sure all
aspects are covered in assignments
-
Maintains camera equipment and film
resources, distribution, and development

Monitors and regulates quality, variety
of photos

Manages Campus Share space

Also completes photo assignments
Copy Director
-
Trains Copy Team on all aspects of
copywriting, making consulting style book (among other resources)

Decides what copy shall be created based
on layout ladder, volume’s theme, consulting group

Facilitates all copy work (e.g.
headlines, captions, features)

Distributes copy assignments,
coordinating with Layout Design Director on quantity and deadlines

Contacts individuals and groups for
photos, stories, quotes and other information

Maintains files of event programs,
flyers/handouts/pamphlets, articles, and back issues of The Lawrentian and
Lawrence Today

Monitors and regulating quality of copy

Facilitates proofreading of all content
Layout Design Director

Trains Layout Design Team
on software and design theory

Facilitates layout, art, and design work

Distributes assignments according to the layout ladder

Monitors and regulating quality of design and layout work

Ensures publishing deadlines are met

Edits pictures

Participates in layout, art, and design work
Operations Director

Obtains and monitors lists of all
students, faculty, staff, clubs/organizations/groups/teams for
representation in volume

Facilitates student and faculty portrait
projects

Maintains continuous calendar of campus
events

Checks layout ladder against Events
Calendar to make sure all aspects are covered in assignments

Contacts LU departments for
supplemental photography (e.g. Athletics, Public Affairs, Lawrentian)

Communicates with Directors (Photography
Director
specifically on constant basis for Photography Team assignments, Copy
Director &
Layout Design Director on regular basis) to check that assignments are being completed
and turned in, ensuring all deadlines are met

Oversees compilation of “Index” pages

Attends Publication Board meetings with
Business Director (if Business Director is also Editor-in-Chief), unless another Director volunteers
Editor-in-Chief
This position is an honorary role to be
filled by one of the five directors. When applicable, in addition to his/her
tasks as a director, s/he will be responsible for:

Being knowledgeable in all aspects of
Ariel operations

Supervising deadlines, publishing dates,
and progress of all projects
-
Compiling and guiding agendas for
meetings, ensuring each Director can report progress, voice concerns
-
Attending Publication Board meetings with
one other director, and reports back to staff
-
Maintaining the "Holy Bible" of the Ariel
-
Fostering competitive spirit and a desire
to produce an award-winning yearbook
-
Motivating staff members, encouraging new
ideas and communication amongst members
-
Calling for election of or appointing
(procedure decided by Directors) successing Editor-in-Chief, and ensuring
proper election and training of other Directors
-
The successing Editor-in-Chief is
announced at end of second term, begins planning the next book, while
current Editor-in-Chief continues through end of current book
-
Any individual may hold a Director
position, including Editor-in-Chief, for more than one year, but must
re-elected/re-appointed each year (i.e. there is no guarantee on more than
one (volume’s) year-long term).
