  • Explore Academic Options:
    • Keep your mind open and think about what you might like to do.
    • Take a broad selection of courses as a way of previewing different majors.
    • Initiate meetings with professors to learn about various majors.
    • Visit Career Services for resources to help you think through a major.
  • Attend S2 which will help you uncover your interests and skills, match them to your major, help prepare your resume and start providing you with tools and resources that all college students should know to be successful now and in the future. A Career Advisor will offer you the support and connection you need to launch your Life After Lawrence NOW!
  • Discover Internship and Career Opportunities:
    • Review LUworks for current internships and jobs, or past ones to stimulate interests/ideas; visit the Internship Summit.
    • Explore a variety of careers(even if you think you "know" what you want to do) by participating in Career Services events such as:
    • Participate in mock interviews to practice articulating your interests and skills to a third party; interviewing well is a valuable lifelong skill to have.
    • Consult with a career advisor to identify how your interests, hobbies, skills and values relate to career fields and graduate schools.
    • Learn the search function in Voyager.
  • Develop yourself as a Competitive Candidate by:
    • Utilizing good study habits to maintain a solid GPA.
    • Create an effective resume and upload it to LUworks.
    • Gain work experience through volunteering or an internship.
  • Attend Internships 101  for more information.
    • ​After attending Internships 101, schedule a meeting with the internship coordinator to discuss next steps.
    • Participate in different extra-curricular activities and leadership programs, where you can explore your skills and interests.

The career development process or journey is about exploring and preparing; actions you will do throughout your lifetime. The process is fluid and will be different for everyone.

The chart below includes suggested activities for each class year as well those which should be ongoing throughout your time at Lawrence, as noted in the center. You should not feel constrained by the year noted and proceed as it makes sense for you. Regardless of where you are in your journey, the Career Services staff is here to help you navigate the necessary steps for your future.
