A Letter from the Dean of Career Services Spring 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to another busy term on campus! Currently, students are on Spring break, however, shortly, the pace will pick up as they seek assistance in evaluating graduate school and job offers, continue networking and securing internships, all while completing Honors projects, Senior Experience, recitals, reading lists and participating in the myriad of clubs, sports, Greek and volunteer activities on campus!
To be sensitive to students’ busy schedules, Career Services offers a variety of diverse programs in a safe, non-judgmental setting at different times and days of the week. Our daily Drop-in Hours continue to be well-received as they allow students to be seen without a previously scheduled appointment. We are also pleased to see freshmen and sophomores exploring their options for Life After Lawrence NOW.
Briefly, some highlights for the upcoming term include:
• Seniors: Support, Strategies and Success (S4) –weekly sessions which provide seniors the tools to promote their skills, create quality application materials and build a personal brand.
• Guest Drop-in Hours with LU-R1 mentors. The LU-R1 program partners qualified students who are majoring in the natural sciences with alumni who are conducting research at leading R1 universities across the country. Several of the mentors will be available to meet 1:1 with students in Career Services.
• Mike Lee ’66 will host a session, Filmmaking – An Insider’s View.
For more information regarding our campus visits, Think Globally, Explore Locally site visits, midterm reading period trips to Chicago to explore business and arts & entertainment and more, see our Career Services Spring Term brochure at http://www.lawrence.edu/students/resources/career . Please encourage your son or daughter to drop by and start his/her journey to Life After Lawrence NOW.
As we plan for the 2013-2014 academic year, we would love to hear if you have any internship or job contacts which may be of interest to our students.
I look forward to seeing those of you who will be at Commencement on June 9!
All the best,
Dean of Career Services
