Dear Parents & Guardians,
We were fortunate to have one of our Career Assistants, Alexis Cuozzo ’15, working with us over Spring Break and I am pleased that she is joining me in sending you greetings from campus! If your student recently returned home, we hope you had a nice time catching up and learning about your son or daughter’s involvement in the Lawrence community. If your student remained on campus, like Alexis, or traveled during the break, we hope he or she enjoyed a respite from the rigor of a 10 week term.
Over the past couple of months, we have noticed an increase in the number of students telling us about graduate school acceptances and internship and job offers, and we are excited to celebrate these achievements! Regardless of where your student is in the Life After Lawrence NOW exploration process, we are dedicated to meeting and supporting him or her and have planned events that will suit a variety of student interests.
Our program, Seniors: Support, Strategies and Success (S4) will be restarting April 7. S4 is a weekly half hour session that covers topics relevant to preparing for Life After Lawrence NOW (e.g. Interviewing, Social Media in the Job Search and more). In response to student feedback, we are excited to introduce a new session called Managing Your Money. We recognize that many of you have started conversations with your student about saving money, paying off loans and other sustainable spending practices, and at this session we plan to continue these sorts of conversations. This session is open to all students regardless of class year.
On Saturday, April 18 we will be hosting our annual Career Conference. This year’s Career Conference will include:
- Panels of young alumni sharing their experiences and tips for transitioning into the workplace and a second group of alumni sharing their experiences as graduates with a foreign language major. These participants will also be available for 1:1 career chats throughout the weekend.
- A Nonprofit Resources Fair, which will be a great opportunity for students to network with different nonprofit organizations throughout the Midwest and learn about possibilities of securing internships or post-graduation jobs with these organizations.
- A Networking Reception, along with an opportunity to have free, professional headshots taken.
For additional events, please review our Spring Term Career Services booklet, discuss the offerings with your student and encourage him or her to visit us and participate in the events. And for an introduction to Career Services by Bhavana Suvarna ’17, click here.
On behalf of the team in Career Services, thank you for your partnership, either by encouraging your student to visit our office or in your willingness to provide internship or job opportunities. We have enjoyed helping your sons and daughters explore Life After Lawrence NOW this academic year and we look forward to meeting the seniors’ families at Graduation!
All the best,
Alexis Cuozzo ’15 Mary Meany ’83
