Lawrence 60th Reunion

“My father graduated from Lawrence College in 1925, and my mother graduated from Milwaukee-Downer College in 1924. They brought up a ballet dancer whose career ended with a knee injury in England. My father soon thereafter enrolled me at Lawrence as a junior. Lawrence turned out to be a most fulfilling academic and social experience, which prepared me for a variety of careers as international stewardess, writer, and administrative officer for a bridge design engineering firm. In recognition of the impact Lawrence has had on my life, I joined Legacy Circle by establishing a trust that provides for my grandchild's future college education, as well as establishes the Arthur M. and Ruth Meyer Gruhl Scholarship Fund to honor my parents at our alma mater.”

Lawrence 50th Reunion

“The Lawrence experience changes lives. For the Wickland family it was first me, then brother ’65 and sister ’68, then grad schools and law degrees for my siblings. My biggest award however was the hand of Sally Rosebush ’62. Early on both of us wanted to give back to Lawrence and its future students. Well before the establishment of the Legacy Circle we made provisions for the school in each of our wills. Two decades after the formal establishment of the entity the rolls have grown to approximately 850. About six years ago we gifted a second to die life insurance policy to Lawrence wherein we would gift to the Lawrence Fund monies to pay the annual premium. Thus we are helping the University provide financial support to current and future students so that they too can experience their own life changing moments.”

Milwaukee-Downer 50th Reunion

“I have been asked to share with you, my sister Green Class, my reasons for joining the Lawrence-Downer Legacy Circle. I truly loved my four years at MDC—friends, traditions and a great education. Time brings change, mergers happen. I have found that Milwaukee-Downer certainly has a “physical presence” on campus. Lawrence continues to provide a sound liberal arts education as well as Downer scholarship opportunities for women.

“The Legacy Circle is not an exclusive club. And you don’t have to be rich to join it. It includes all who wish to include Lawrence in their planned giving in some way.

I made the decision to make Lawrence a beneficiary of my 401(k) plan, designating a percentage for Lawrence. This allows me to ensure the future of my family, but also the future of Lawrence and the opportunities it provides to future students from Sheboygan to Sierra Leone. I feel this enriches Lawrence, and also the communities where alumni make a difference long after leaving campus.”

“Many classmates give regularly to Lawrence’s annual fund. However, as you may recall, many of us got really good at procrastinating as college students. And when it comes to giving, I confess that procrastination strikes again on occasion. That's why we as a family are making plans to join LU's Legacy Circle – a super easy, effective way to give to Lawrence even after we are no longer around. For those already giving, it is a way to continue the gifts, large or small. For those who have found giving challenging, it is a way to make a lasting gift of any amount down the road.

Lawrence 10th Reunion

“Joining Legacy Circle was an easy decision for me! I feel so strongly about what my time at Lawrence did for me personally that I want others to be able to experience the same thing. I choose to contribute on an annual basis, but also wanted to leave a legacy after I’m no longer here. A simple beneficiary change form was all it took and now students in the future will continue to receive that gift even after I’m gone. I may not have the most resources, but I know that what I can do makes a difference.”
