About

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and developmental psychopathology researcher. I direct the Child and Adolescent Research in Emotion (CARE) lab at Lawrence where my students and I examine emotion regulation in children and adolescents to better understand and prevent the development of psychopathology (e.g., depression, anxiety, self-injurious behavior). I co-edited the Handbook of Depression in Adolescence and have published several research studies on adolescent mental health. Much of my research focuses on rumination, the tendency to passively dwell on negative emotions. My students and I developed a mindfulness-based mobile app to reduce rumination and have recently conducted clinical trials to test it. I am on the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and serve as a research consultant for the local Connected Community Wellness Screen program. Currently, I am Chair of the Psychology Department, and I teach in both the psychology department and neuroscience program at Lawrence. Some of my regular courses include: Developmental Psychopathology, Child Clinical Psychology, Clinical and Affective Neuroscience, and Senior Capstone in Psychology.
