The Composition Studio of the Lawrence Conservatory of Music provides the opportunity for composers to study composition at a nationally recognized conservatory of music and selective liberal arts college. Our students receive comprehensive pre-professional training in music composition and we emphasize frequent performances of students' instrumental and vocal chamber music. We also provide exceptional opportunities for orchestral and large ensemble readings and performance.
All the World Premieres, All the Time
After an exciting fall term with the residencies of eighth blackbird and Germany’s Singer Pur Vocal Ensemble, we’re now settling into the more ordinary routine of having many, many world premieres of student compositions. Composition Studio Recitals are held at the end of each of our three terms and feature works by Lawrence student composers. By the end of this school year, members of the composition studio will have had, collectively, more than thirty world premieres.
Winter and spring are also a time of culmination and celebration for our seniors, who complete their capstone experiences with the Senior Recital in Composition. This year features senior recitals by Class of '16 composers Nic Bizub, Stephanie Sundberg, David Voss, Christian Carroll, Tim Carrigg and Trevor Hietpas.
