The Lawrence golf program is split between two seasons: a fall season and a spring season, highlighted by the annual three-day, 54-hole Midwest Conference championship tournament in May. In addition to playing other members of the Midwest Conference, the Lawrence golf team annually competes against some of the best golf programs in the Midwest, including some NCAA Division I opponents, on some of the region's finest golf courses. The 2004-05 season was the finest year for Lawrence golf in more than five decades. The Vikings won the Midwest Conference championship and had three all-conference performers. In 2006, Joe Loehnis became the first golfer in Lawrence history to be named an All-American.
