After earning varsity status in 1974, the Lawrence men's soccer program has enjoyed periods of great success and made several trips to the Midwest Conference title game. The Vikings won the league crown in 1985 and finished second in 1989 and 2005. Lawrence has enjoyed a resurgence in recent seasons under head coach Blake Johnson. The Vikings qualified for the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2011 and Johnson was the Midwest Conference Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005. Along with nine Midwest Conference games, the Vikings play a challenging non-conference schedule of regional and nationally-ranked opponents.
