"Don't Sit in Silence," an event held May 16, 2013, outside the Warch Campus Center, was a powerful visual display of 180 empty chairs, representing the number of Americans who die each day by suicide.

It was a time to convey hope through the sharing of stories, masks, and postcard messages created by members of the Lawrence community.

Thirteen stories, testaments to pain, courage, and resiliency, were submitted to project organizers and posted near the entrance to the Warch Campus Center.

On the day of the event, visitors added to the display with masks and messages, memorializing 48 and honoring 15 others.

This Mental Health Awareness Month event was sponsored by the Lawrence Lifeline Project, LU-NAMI, and the Lawrence Chapter of "To Write Love on Her Arms," in conjunction with NAMI-Fox Valley and the Northeast Wisconsin Mental Health Connection.
