The Committee on Community Service and Engagement

The Committee on Community Service and Engagement, established in 2012, was created with the intention to represent the volunteer community on campus.  The members consist of representatives from large, active volunteer-focused student organizations, as well as members of the VCSC.  The goal of this committee is to provide a way for these organizations to meet and share upcoming events, network with other like-minded volunteers, and work together to promote the voice of volunteerism on campus.  An important responsibility of this committee is to promote and distribute the Humanitarian Projects Grant, which is a grant that is available to students looking to do a volunteer-based project on campus or in the community.

In addition, this committee coordinates the service shuttle which provides transportation to volunteer opportunities on Saturday mornings. Although transportation is provided, it is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with non-profit organizations. To reserve your spot on the service shuttle click here.

Current student organizations represented on the committee: BIR - Building Intergenerational Relationships, GlobeMed, LARY Buddy - Lawrence Assistance Reaching Youth, NAfME - National Association for Music Education, PAW - People for Animal Welfare, VITAL - Volunteers in Tutoring At Lawrence, AMSA - American Medical Student Association, and Rotaract.

Adopt an Agency Program

Adopt an Agency is a way many Lawrence organizations create sustained relationships with community organizations. To start this process, fill out an Adopt An Agency Summary Proposal and drop it off at the Volunteer Center (or email it to us) and a member of our staff will help you find the perfect organization for your group!

Once you've picked an agency, a Memorandum of Agreement will help your organization make a plan to keep this relationship strong and wonderful. Email or drop it off at the Volunteer Center.

Humanitarian Projects Grant Application

This grant is for students or student-organizations providing service to the on-campus community, the Appleton community, or the world at large.  The grant is to be used for specific projects or ideas that benefit the community the student/organization will be working with while upholding Lawrence University’s mission of providing service to and learning from the community.  In the past funding has gone to service projects such as: jump start fundraisers for events like Ghana Reads and Pakistan Flood relief; sending students to provide relief aid in Mississippi (Hurricane Katrina) and Haiti; and even helping fund the making of a documentary on the Hurricane Katrina aftermath.
