Mission Statement

The VCSC encourages advocacy, service, and learning on the Lawrence campus, connecting Lawrentians to needs in the surrounding community, creating an environment of mutual learning and growth, while providing service to local organizations and individuals. Working collaboratively with the community, we aim to create civically-minded students by building relationships, establishing partnerships, and providing meaningful service.

We accomplish this mission by:
• Serving as an entry point to the volunteer needs of the Fox Cities and providing service to and learning from the community
• Developing and sustaining programs that address systemic issues
• Supporting the professional development and leadership needs of service-minded student leaders

In keeping with the tradition of its founding as a student-led initiative, the VCSC currently supports student-run programs addressing education equality, fair housing and hunger, environmental sustainability, child advocacy, arts programming and accessibility, youth development and empowerment, and elder loneliness.

Hello there! My name is Miguelina and I am a third-year Lawrence student majoring in Anthropology.  I was born in the Dominican Republic, but moved to New York City when I was 13 years old.  In addition to coordinating the VITAL tutoring program, I tutor elementary students at the Appleton YMCA. I am very passionate about working with little kids and addressing issues concerning education, which is why I am so excited to work again for the Volunteer & Community Service Center as the Access to Education Program Coordinator this year.  I am looking forward to working with everyone in the Lawrence community, and to inspire others about the importance of education and volunteering.

Vicky LiangWeiqi Liang '19, Service Corps ELDER ADVOCACY Program Coordinator

Hello! My name is Weiqi (Pounced: “Vicky”), a junior, studying both Philosophy and Gender Studies. I was born in Guangdong, China. (So, I speak Cantonese!) However, I moved to San Francisco when I was 15. I love singing, listening music and watching dramas. I was raised by my grandparents, so I was passionate about working with elderly since high school. For this reason, I am so excited to work for the VCSC as the Elder Advocacy program coordinator this year. I am looking forward to make volunteering more accessible for everyone because I view volunteerism as a way to giving back to the community and collaborating altogether. Therefore, I am not only feeling reward from volunteering, but I can also make more friends.
