Be a Part of the LU Multifaith Council

Thank you for your interest in being part of a core leadership team for Lawrence’s Multifaith Initiatives.  The Multifaith Council supports the Julie Esch Hurvis Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life and the staff of the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life.  The council includes students and employees from the University community. Members of the council do NOT represent particular student organizations, but they interact closely with them.  The council constituted to include representatives from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds, including atheism and humanism as well as a variety of spiritual practices.  

The Multifaith Council meets regularly to accomplish the following:

  • Provide advice and council to the Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life
  • Engage in interfaith dialogue among the members of the council
  • Envision, plan, and provide a multifaith program for the campus community once a term.

This application is designed to help me learn more about you and your interest in being a member of the council.

In submitting this application, I am willing and able to commit to responsibilities related to membership on the council :

• Attendance at the 3-hour start-up meeting in Fall 2017
• Accountability to other members of the council for respectful listening and sharing and confidentiality when requested.
• Bring perspectives from your religious tradition (s) and personal spiritual life as well as your location in the Lawrence community.
• Attendance at and active participation in the regular meetings of the council [to be determined by the membership in consultation with the Dean]
• Advocacy for and attendance at programs and events that the council plans.
