COTS

Mission:

COTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to “ending homelessness in the Fox Valley,” which fulfills a need within the Continuum of Care of the Fox Cities by providing temporary transitional shelter under 5 programs serving homeless men, women, young adults, veterans, and single mother families within the Fox Valley. Their goal is to respectfully provide homeless individuals a safe and affordable place to live, while meeting individual’s basic needs via meals, food preparation, household sustainability and training on basic living skills enabling them to transition to self-sufficiency and independent living.

Volunteer Opportunities:
-Individuals interested in one-time volunteer opportunities such as teaching life-skills, offering specialized courses (i.e. creative writing, film studies, figure drawing, social forums on world events)
-Internships and regular commitment to COTS programming needs


Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity Menasha

Mission:

To provide equal housing opportunities by making simple, decent, and affordable housing available to those who need it the most. Guided by the belief that when families have decent housing they can afford, many of life’s other challenges become more manageable, and drives their organization in their work with Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteer Opportunities:
-Volunteer opportunities consist of group trips on site: deconstruction, rehabilitation, and construction of homes.
-Interested in volunteering at events? Habitat will have 2 main events great for Lawrence clubs, sport teams, Greek life, or residence halls!

 

Harbor House

Mission:

To lead a community-wide partnership in the prevention of domestic violence and abuse, and to offer safety and support to diverse families in crisis. In order to meet their mission the following 6 programs are offered: Shelter Program, Children’s Program, Women’s Program, Community Education Program, Domestic Violence Program, and the Volunteer Program.

Volunteer Opportunities:
-Volunteers must apply on an individual basis, however pre-arranged volunteer groups are welcome!
-Students interested in providing childcare, teaching courses on life skills, offering crafts, or leading a group activity for all ages are highly encouraged to volunteer with us.


Homeless Connections

Mission:

To end homelessness by connecting individuals and families to resources that promote self-sufficiency and prevent future homeless episodes. Homeless Connections is a leader in the fight against homelessness in the Fox Valley, working collaboratively to improve the quality of living for the people we serve, as well as the community as a whole.

Volunteer Opportunities:
-Volunteers must apply on an individual basis, however pre-arranged volunteer groups are welcome!
-Looking for students interested in reading to children or being a library buddy
-Mandarin and Spanish speaking translators needed (on-call basis)


Warming Shelter

Mission:

Fox Valley Warming Shelter is a temporary overnight shelter that serves a maximum capacity of 60 homeless adults (men and women 18+) any given night. In addition to meal preparation, access to hygiene facilities and other useful resources designed to connect clients to employment, counseling, and stable housing; the Warming Shelter is dedicated to providing a safe space to all its clients.
Volunteer Opportunities:
-Volunteers and groups needed: 6-7 students welcome to participate in our meal planning and preparation program. We are also looking for groups willing to help with light cleaning/ maintaining a healthy environment for our clients!
