VCSC Student Employment
Did you know that the Volunteer and Community Service Center (VCSC) is the only department on campus to be almost entirely student-run? The VCSC is run by 24 student workers with the support of 1.3 professional staff members. Some of these students work primarily in the VCSC to promote volunteerism on campus, while others work with non-profit organizations and schools in the Fox Cities community to support their missions and serve as a bridge between the community and campus..
SERVICE CORPS students work to address one community issue by partnering with key community partners to support their mission, make connections between Lawrentian volunteer interests and organization needs and to recruit volunteers and help facilitate volunteer programming. Students are hired by the LU Volunteer Center but serve both on and off campus. For the 2015-16 academic year, the VCSC is seeking 1 Service Corps student focused on the Arts. See Service Corps Programs Coordinator-position description 2015-2016 for additional information and apply here.

"The Volunteer Center is the best job that I have had on campus till date. It has such a great community of students dedicated to service and social justice which creates a great work environment. The Volunteer Center has also shaped the person I am today as it allows me to explore my interests through the realms of volunteerism and service. I have definitely grown as a student and an individual being a part of the Volunteer Center team!"

"Hello! I'm Megan Occhino, I am a rising senior pursuing a psychology degree here at the glorious LU. I am from the heart of Packer nation, Green Bay, WI. I really love being silly, roaming around outside, singing in the shower and eating copious amounts of ice cream. I am passionate about working with people, particularly kiddos. I am excited to return back to the VCSC as the LARY coordinator for the second year in a row! To me volunteerism looks like working together, learning from each other's strengths and weaknesses in order to succeed in a common goal of helping others."
~Megan Occhino '16, LARY Buddy Coordinator 2014-2015
"This is my first year working at the VCSC and I have enjoyed every bit of it. Not only have I had the opportunity to develop new skills but I have also had the chance to pursue my passion. For instance, with the support of Kristi Hill, other Lawrence students and I have had the amazing opportunity to start our own support group, HOLAS, for Latino teens at Roosevelt Middle School. The goal of our group is to empower these teens and help them understand that they have a voice and can make a difference in the world. So far, it has been a very rewarding and amazing experience working with the group. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us!"
