Lawrence University Community Council
Meeting Information
Location: (none); Day: (none); Time: (none); Frequency: (none)
Description
Lawrence University Community Council is the student governing body at Lawrence. The council has authority to legislate policies affecting non-curricular campus concerns. The president and vice president are elected through all-campus elections in which students and faculty may vote. Cabinet members are appointed by the president and vice president subject to approval by the council. Residence halls, theme and group houses, and off-campus students have representation on the council through 14 representatives elected by students within defined constituencies. Faculty members collectively appoint four representatives. The General Council usually meets bi-weekly throughout the academic year. Members serve on the council and also on one of several standing committees, including the Finance Committee, Steering Committee, and Polling, Elections, and Leadership Committee. Campus organizations may each designate an official liaison to the council who may take a seat at council meetings, participate in discussion, and recommend legislation to come before the council. Liaisons may not make motions or vote in council proceedings, however.

Description
Lawrence University Color Guard's (LUCG) purpose is to create a space where students of all experience levels can learn how to use the flag, a skill that no other club has. We plan to hold classes to teach students how to use the equipment, basic technique with some dance elements and routines that will solidify their skills with the flag. Classes will be held weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the club's needs, where we will teach basic flag skills such as etiquette, safety, timing, and control. By teaching and learning from each other, we hope to build a strong community where everyone is safe and welcome. As LUCG, we also plan to collaborate with other dance groups to hold performances in the Fall and Spring with the Melee Dance Troupe. LUCG's is a performance-based club that focuses on empowering its members by building self-confidence, positive community, and encouraging learning environment. In this club environment, we strive to learn from each other in a non-competitive setting. Therefore, we will do this by teaching classes at a pace that caters to the individuals. Students that are teaching will be accessible to those that are interested in spending time outside of class to work on skills. Overall, LUCG is centered on the flag and no prior dance experience is needed to learn the flag. Mission Statement: We aim to create a positive community where everyone and anyone can learn the flag. By learning how to use the flag, we hope to help people empower themselves by learning a new skill and having the confidence to perform for others. We also hope to build healthy relationships and teamwork with each other, therefore creating a positive community and space to learn from and teach Color Guard. We want to educate people about this sport by providing a positive environment in which everyone to learn and grow as individuals and as a team. We emphasize members to encourage others and provide everyone with the skills they need to achieve a successful performance. Student Organization Blurb (50 word limit): Lawrence University Color Guard is an open organization that teaches the art of Color Guard through spinning a flag and dance movement. We will hold performances on campus to showcase our abilities of artistry and teamwork. We welcome all experience levels who want to learn a new sport.

However, the club’s mission is beyond Vietnamese students, as we want to promote Vietnamese cultures to not only students in campus, but also try to reach out to faculties and Appleton community. We have been doing that for several years individually, and now we notice we should have a more structure organization to spread the impact of Vietnamese culture on a broader scale
