February is Waste Reduction Month

February 1, 2011:
Greenfire is running a month-long effort to reduce waste at Lawrence. Please check back throughout the month for updates! If you'd like to get involved with Greenfire, please join us at 8:30pm on Thursdays in the Greenfire House (Click here for a map) or visit our Contact page.

"Waste Reduction Month" includes:

  • Recyclemania Competition (all month): Lawrence will compete (in a friendly way) against other universities to see who can throw away less and recycle more. Click here to go the Recyclemania website.

  • Greenfire's annual Clean Plate Challenge (Feb. 14-27): Greenfire members will scrape plates in the cafeteria to measure food waste. The goal of this event is to promote sustainable eating habits and to collect data to compare with previous years.

  • Coffee discount at the cafe (all month): For those who bring a reusable mug to the cafe, any size coffee up to 16oz. will only be $1.00! Coffee in disposable cups will remain full price.

  • Carry your trash with you (Feb. 1-6): Many students will be carting around their trash with them for a week to draw attention to how much waste we each produce. Join in if you'd like! Click here for the Trash Collection Facebook event.

  • Clock talks (all month): Greenfire members will be giving 5-minute talks at the clock by Main Hall between classes. Watch for us!
