We are incredibly proud of our students and all they accomplish in our programs as well as in their schools and communities. The student achievements summarized below can be viewed in the Academy lobby.

ABRSM Exams

ABRSM is the UK’s largest music education body, one of its largest music publishers and the world’s leading provider of music exams, holding over 650,000 assessments in more than 90 countries every year. An ABRSM grade has a worldwide currency, and the exams are designed to motivate learners at all levels and ages, providing realistic goals and tangible rewards for their achievements. This year, 19 Academy students took piano exams and the prep exam, which is an honor in itself and requires a great deal of preparation. 6 students passed with merit and 3 passed with distinction among other passing grades. 3 students took music theory exams and passed, 2 with distinction.


Birch Creek Summer Concert Series

Birch Creek Music Performance Center is an elite summer music academy located in the heart of Door County Wisconsin. Students ages 13-19 attend from up to 15 states and from other countries. Together, the students and faculty present over 30 concerts in the historic Dutton Barn and over 30 outreach concerts during the academy season. 3 Academy string players were selected to participate in the concert series.

Honors Performance Series

The Honors Performance Series showcases the most talented middle and high school school musicians from around the world. Selected Finalists receive the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with and learn from renowned conductors as they prepare for and perform as an ensemble at a truly world-class venue – Carnegie Hall or the Sydney Opera House. 4 Academy students were selected to participate in the honors orchestras this year.


Steinway Junior Piano Competition

Steinway & Sons held their second annual Steinway Junior Piano Competition for young pianists ages 18 and under. The competition, which was held at Steinway showrooms throughout the United States and Canada, represents the pursuit of superior artistic expression through piano performance. Academy students placed in both the second and third division categories.


WMTA Badger State Keyboard Competition

Hosted by the Wisconsin Music Teacher Association (WMTA), Badger is the state level competitions for students’ progressing on from District Auditions. The goal of this exciting state competition is to challenge students to perform the same repertoire as at District Auditions, but at a more advanced level. Highly motivated students are provided with an opportunity to hone performance skills, grow as musical artists, and compete with others across the state. 3 Academy students won their age group, 3 were runners-up, and 6 received honorable mentions.


WMSA Honors Ensembles

The Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) has posted the results for the 2019 WSMA High School State Honors Project: This year, more than 1,400 students auditioned for 428 positions in five honors ensembles. 27 Academy students were selected to participate in the Honors Music Project, and various others were selected as alternates.

For the Middle Level Honors Project, around 1100 auditions occur for the 311 available positions in the Middle Level Honors State Music Project. 15 Academy students were selected to participate in the Honors Orchestra.


WSMA State Solo & Ensemble Exemplary Performance Recognition

The Exemplary Performance Recognition Project expands recognition of outstanding student performers at the WSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival: State festival adjudicators identify exceptional performances at each of the state festival campuses through a two step process: nomination and final selection. Students who are selected for the award receive a certificate from WSMA in recognition of their outstanding performance at the State Festival. 14 Academy student events received this award, and many others were nominated.
