About

I'm an archaeologist who specializes in the evolution of complex societies.   I teach courses on world prehistory, historic preservation, and museum studies, and I curate our large collection of archaeological and ethnographic artifacts.   I'm also an expert in remote sensing, which involves using various geophysical tools to find archaeological sites without disturbing the ground.  I've been lucky enough to use these tools to explore sites on every continent except Antarctica.  Here at Lawrence my students and I regularly use these tools to help local townships and landowners find unmarked graves in old cemeteries.
