About

Equally at home as a performer and educator, Peruvian cellist Taide Prieto has traveled the world sharing her passion for music with both audiences and students alike. As a chamber musician Taide has collaborated with prominent artists such as Joseph Silverstein, Frank Huang, Rhonda Rider and Lynn Chang.  As an orchestra player she has traveled across Europe and South America performing at Teatro Colon in Argentina; Teatro Teresa Carreño in Venezuela; Teatro Municipal of Lima in Peru; The Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music and the Royal Lublin Castle in Poland; Kassel City Hall Auditorium in Germany, and playing under conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Carlos Prieto, Kenneth Kiesler, among others.

In 2021 and 2022, Taide served as cello faculty at the National University of Music in Peru.  Prior to this appointment, she served as a cello instructor for the Longy School of Music’s Side-by-Side program, and as a faculty at the Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas in Mexico.  Her passion for education led her to co-found Boston String Academy, an El Sistema-inspired program that provides rigorous string instrument instruction to children and youth in under-served communities in Boston. She served as co-director of Boston String Academy for five years, a time in which the organization gained state-wide and national recognition. In 2013, Taide also founded a string orchestra program in Mexico, at the American School Foundation of Chiapas, a program that continues to educate and ignite the love for music in children and youth.

Winner of the National Soloist Competition in Peru at the age of 15, she received multiple invitations to perform as a soloist with various orchestras across the country, including the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru. Since then, Taide has kept an active career performing in the United States, Latin America and Europe. She has been invited as guest artist to perform at the Faculty and Friends Concert Series of Texas Christian University, Music in the Mountains Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival Faculty Concerts Series, The Boston Conservatory’s String Master Series, Cervantino International Music Festival in Mexico, Bienal de Violoncello in Peru, among others.

Taide holds a bachelor's degree in cello performance from Texas Christian University, a master's degree in cello performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music and a performance diploma from The Boston Conservatory. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in cello performance at University of Michigan where she studies with internationally acclaimed cellist Richard Aaron.
