Yang Hu ’10
Yang Hu ’10 began volunteering for Career Services almost immediately after graduation. A senior consultant at Deloitte Consulting, Yang has hosted tours for the Lawrence Scholars in Business trips to Chicago and offered his advice to current students. As an international alumnus, Yang has a strong connection to international students and the unique challenges they face in the job market. This past year, Yang helped start a program for international students to be mentored by international alumni. The mentoring program is now expanding after a successful pilot year. Yang has found his experience with this mentor program quite rewarding. “Through a year-long program, we were able to make a lasting impact on the mentees’ time at Lawrence. Last year, as a senior, one mentee was not sure what he wanted to do after Lawrence. His GPA wasn’t very high, and he was discouraged by the political rhetoric to reduce legal skill-based immigration in the U.S. Luckily, he had a great mentor who encouraged him and helped him discover his passion in data science. The two of them worked tirelessly together, and he eventually landed a job in Chicago before graduation. When he told me that he couldn't have done it without this mentor and our program, I knew all our work was worth the effort."
