On May 16th Lawrence will participate in National Mental Health Awareness Month by hosting a display in the WCC Plaza (rain site is the Gallery) that symbolizes the impact of suicide. There will be 180 empty chairs set up to represent the number of Americans who die each day by suicide. On some of the chairs will be masks, Post Secret cards, and stories created by campus members. Anyone is invited to submit a story between now and May 15th, by clicking on the "Don't Sit in Silence" link to the left.
There will also be an opportunity that day for people to fill out a slip of paper in honor or memory of a loved one or friend. These will also be attached to one of the empty chairs. We will have green lapel ribbons to distribute.

“Bullied” Documentary and Discussion with Jamie Nabozny
Tuesday January 22 7:30, Warch Campus Center, Cinema
As explained on the Bullied DVD jacket, “This is the story of Jamie Nabozny. His ordeal began in 6th grade and only got worse in high school. Years of unrelenting bullying took its toll. But Jamie decided to take a stand – against the bullying he endured and the bullying that he knew other students endured. He went to court and fought for the right to be safe at school, even if you are gay. His inspiring story offers hope for the millions of gay and lesbian students who still don’t feel safe at school.” This program is co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Lifeline, SHARB, GLOW, TWLOHA-LU chapter, the gender studies department, and is funded by a grant from the local Community Health Action Team (CHAT).
