Description:
Riverview Gardens is a socially innovative, self-supporting venture that engages Fox Valley residents in community stewardship of a market garden enterprise, community park space, and job training program while enhancing the missions of local outreach organizations and building financial resources to help address root causes of poverty, homelessness, and unemployment. Our vision is to grow Riverview Gardens into an inclusive, socially-innovative, and replicable community- outreach model that changes the paradigm for addressing poverty, homelessness, and unemployment in the Fox Valley and beyond.
Volunteer Opportunities:
There are many opportunities for volunteers to get involved at Riverview in different capacities. Daily opportunities for outdoor agriculture and land stewardship involve the preparation, maintenance, and care for a market garden and park space. Volunteers can also contribute to the project through work with communications, equipment maintenance, volunteer engagement, and Community Center maintenance and management. Riverview has a number of internships available on a rolling basis. The space and work is an excellent opportunity for large groups to volunteer together.
Qualifications/requirements:
Volunteers must attend an Orientation on the property. Orientations are held every Saturday afternoon at 2pm, beginning from the parking lot of 1101 S. Oneida entrance. The orientation includes a walking tour of the property, the project’s history and mission, and an opportunity to create an online volunteer account and sign waivers. In order to become an active volunteer in the online system, one must attend an orientation, create an account, and have a signed waiver on file.
*If the Saturday afternoon time slot is inconvenient for your schedule, alternate orientation times and locations will be posted on the Riverview Gardens calendar (www.riverviewgardens.org).
Time Commitment:
The time commitment for a Riverview Gardens volunteer is entirely at the discretion of the volunteer. Individuals sign up for volunteer opportunities of interest to them that fit into their schedule. Internships and leadership responsibilities involve extended time commitments.
