Did you know that the Volunteer and Community Service Center is the only department on campus to be almost entirely student-run? The VCSC is run by twenty student workers with the support of three professional staff members. Half of these students workers work primarily in the VCSC to promote volunteerism on campus, while the other half work primarily at sites in the Fox Valley to support their missions and serve as a bridge between the community and campus.

Read what two students have to say about working in the VCSC:
In the three years that I've worked at the Volunteer Center, it has become an important part of my life and contributed to my learning and personal growth in ways that academics could not do, even influencing my ideas about what I’d like to do after college. Since the Volunteer Center is run by a team of students who each have specific responsibilities, it is highly flexible and has helped me learn both how to work in a team and how to take initiative in starting and finishing my own projects. Through working as a part of the Volunteer Center team, I’ve made lasting friendships with others who are just as passionate about service as I am. Working at the Volunteer Center is not only a healthy challenge, but also a healthy dose of fun! Beyond this, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing that by working at the Volunteer Center, I’ve made an impact on the Lawrence and Appleton communities.
~Marika Straw '13, Promotions Coordinator at the VCSC
In my view, I've found the perfect job for a college freshman. I love working with kids, and I feel like this coordinating experience will help me in the future. I'm happy to be a part of such a great school and to continue serving the community by keeping the connections going.
