What is the purpose of SAAC?
- Assist in evaluation of the Men's and Women's Athletic Programs and make recommendations to Administration for the improvement of the student-athlete academic, athletic, and social experiences
- To provide the student-athlete population with an opportunity to more effectively communicate with the LU Athletic Department Administration and provide suggestions on programs designed to serve their needs
- Encourage unity, common purpose, and camaraderie between and among all athletes in the program
- To actively encourage more involvement of the student-athletes in campus and community projects
- To design and implement programs which will encourage academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility, and general awareness
What are the expectations of SAAC?
- The primary responsibility of a SAAC representative it to transfer information discussed in meetings to your teammates and coaches. This can be done during team meetings or in an email form.
- Get your team involved in activities which SAAC is hosting or promoting.
- To be an active member, come to meetings, share ideas and be present for SAAC activities.
Our attendance Policy:
- After two-missed meeting (unexcused or excused with no other proxy from the team present) the rep and the sports coach will receive an email noting that a change needs to be made.
- After the third missed meeting the executive board will have a personal meeting with the team representative.
- SAAC is required to have one voting member from each varsity team and if an individual fails to maintain their membership then they will be replaced
Membership:
- The membership shall be composed of one voting member and one alternate from each varsity team, with the addition of reps from sports medicine, and sports information
- Other community members with an active interest in varsity sports may attend meetings but cannot be recognized as voting members
- Each member will serve as a liaison between the Board and their individual team
- Each member shall serve on at least one subcommittee
Qualifications (minimum):
- Academic eligibility during appointment (LU Athletic Department standards: 2.0GPA)
- Consistency with LU-SAAC purposes
- Attendance at each bi-weekly meeting (by member or alternate)
Standing Committee:
- Committee chairpersons shall be elected by LU-SACC members
- Membership on committees is open to all academically eligible student-athletes
- The four standing committees are:
- Student-Athlete Welfare
- Education and Outreach
- Community Outreach
- Facility and Event
Executive Committee:
- The LU-SAAC Executive Committee shall consist of an elected chair, vice chair, and secretary, as well as chairs of the four standing committees, and an Athletic Department Staff Member
