Last minute LUFFt Bjørklünden Info
Oct/20/2006 15:04
Next: as you had probably seen in our *amazing*
"newsletter", we're going to be watching "Inherit the
Wind" at the meeting today! Considering that our
meetings *are* open to the public, we may attract a
broader audience than *just* LUFFt people (in fact,
I’m hoping we do so)… All of this is in order to 1.
show a movie without going through the ridiculously
long and laborious process of requesting money from
LUCC, ordering the movie and the rights to show the
movie, reserving some place to actually show the
movie, and advertising for the event, and 2.
hopefully get some more attention on campus! We still
can show this or any number of other movies
legitimately on campus sometime, though we (of the
LUFFt “administration&rdquo decided to take the opportunity to
get some attention while it’s still somewhat
early in the year, and before we go to
Bjørklunden (just as a deadline). Again,
although we’re not advertising the film, we’d
like people to come (even though I’m sure we’re
breaking some copyright
laws&hellip – so bring your friends!
But wait – there’s more! To make it even more legitimate looking, we’ll hold a brief discussion before the film as well as a somewhat more lengthy one after the film on the topic of… the film! (Which is, by the way, the so-called “Monkey Trial”… although, as Brandon mentioned, our discussion will span the teaching of evolution/creationism in American schools as well.) Some other campus orgs have apparently gotten away with showing movies via this method, so I figured we’d give it a try!
Oh, and we're *almost* to having a working Lawrence email addy (lufft@lawrence.edu)... but not *quite* yet!
And that’s all I have time for! Again: get back to me on the Bjørklunden stuff (esp. if you’re one of the aforementioned above), and come to the meeting (7:00 in Riverview) as prepared as you can to watch a movie and talk about evolution, creationism, education…. and all that good stuff!
See you then!
