Leadership Postitions in Lambda Sigma

THE PRESIDENT
The president runs the biweekly meetings of the group as a whole, and represents us at various functions throughout the year.  This includes speaking during New Student Week and attending the National Convention. This person supervises the other chapter officers and makes sure that necessary materials are given to Nationals throughout the year.  This is by far the largest and most time consuming job in Lambda Sigma.  Past presidents have done many other unmentioned things during and before the academic year, without which the society could not function.

THE VICE PRESIDENT
The vice president functions as the president when that person is not present or able to function.  Although each year's group runs things differently, in the past couple years the vice president has also presided over the Improvement Committee.  This committee consists of all of the officers and the chairs of the committees.  It is designed to make large group meetings run faster by setting goals for the chapter, dealing with problems that arise during the year, and proposing solutions to be presented at large group meetings.  The vice president also coordinates the work of the various committees.

THE RECORDING SECRETARY
The recording secretary records the minutes of the Large Group and Improvement Committee meetings and promptly sends them to all members.  This person also takes attendance at each meeting, and notifies members of future meetings and events.

THE REPORTING SECRETARY
The reporting secretary deals with all of the correspondence between our chapter and the National Board, and writes an article for Lambda Sigma's newsletter, "The Diamond," each term.

THE TREASURER
The treasurer keeps track of all of the finances of the chapter, reports on the finances to the chapter, collects money for dues and projects, makes an annual report  to the executive secretary.  In our chapter, the treasurer works with the Lawrence University Business Office, and files a budget with the Lawrence University Community Council that is developed with the other officers and approved by the chapter.

STANDING COMMITTEE CHAIRS:

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE CHAIR(S): The fundraising committee organizesfundraisers for Lambda Sigma.  Past fundraisers have included pizza sales, donut sales, Celebrate, and more.

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE CHAIR(S): This committee promotes Lambda Sigma activities throughout the Lawrence and Appleton communities.  They design posters, ensure that the posters are seen around campus, and in other ways ensure that the campus is aware of events that Lambda Sigma puts on.

SELECTION COMMITTEE CHAIR(S):  The selection committee oversees the selection process.  This committee is quite active in third term, although some planning also occurs in second term.  The selection committee chair makes sure that the selection process is on schedule, and delegates work to other members of the committee and group as a whole.

SERVICE COMMITTEE CHAIR(S):  The service committee organizes group activities for Lambda Sigma to do as a whole.  The committee chair also keeps in contact with the Volunteer Center to notify members of service opportunities and records individuals' service hour totals per term.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE CHAIR(S):  The social committee is in charge of organizing at least one major social activity per term, as well as helping to boost morale in the group throughout the year.  Past activities over the years have included putting up door decorations, throwing parties, ice cream runs, monthly birthday celebrations, etc.

STANDARDS COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The standards committee regulates and develops standards for the chapter as a whole.  It meets at least once a term or as necessary.

HISTORIAN:  The historian is charged with documenting of the Alpha Pi chapter's activities through photos and a scrapbook that is compiled over the year.

JUNIOR ADVISORS
According to the chapter bylaws:  "There shall be two junior advisors elected by the new members during the spring term of their selection. If the group deems it necessary, they may also elect a senior advisor."
