LAMBDA SIGMA ALPHA PI CHAPTER
REPORT SHEET for JANUARY 30, 2000

National Mission Statement: Lambda Sigma Society, a national honor society for second year students, is dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship and service among its members as they promote the interests of the colleges and universities they represent

Chapter Purpose: The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the scholarship and leadership of sophomore students and to provide fellowship and support for its members. It shall also provide an opportunity for those leaders to serve the campus and the community, especially aiding in the transition of the freshman class.

Officer Reports

Vice President's Report (Tim Schmidt)

In order to make our large group meetings run faster, committee and officer reports will now be printed and passed out rather than read aloud during meetings. Any committee head or officer who has a report to give should email it to me by the morning of the meeting. Thank you.


Treasurer's Report (David Scott)

As treasurer, I would like to report that we have $1233.47 less a $40 receipt that Nick owes me plus about $125 from the Data Match sales- sound financial status.

Committee Reports

Fundraising (Nick Towns and Crystal Chan)

The Data Match was a huge success! Thanks to you guys, we really pulled it off! We made a profit of $138.60 (not including expenditures)! Thanks a lot; we really pulled together to make this work! Info will be coming in when we need a few people to hand out the completed sheets. More later.

As you know, the pizza sale has been canceled; do not fret! We will be okay!

The next thing coming up is donuts on Feb.18

Service (Megan Comer)

Announcement: For the rest of the year, Faculty Babysitting will now count as service hours. Those of you who helped on January 14th can count those as service hours for term 2. The next Faculty Babysitting is Friday, February 18th.

Group Projects:

  1. Tuesday and Wednesday, February 15th and 16th we will be going to help the ABC Program (A Better Chance) make calls to ask people to buy tickets to their spring play or to make a donation. They have lists of people who have donated in the past for us to call. It will be from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm both nights. About 6 people are needed to go each night. We will be taking a Lawrence van. Please email or call Megan Comer x7422 if you are interested.
  2. Relay for Life. The event is Saturday, February 26th. All the members of the Lambda Sigma team should be collecting their donations. Checks should be made out to American Cancer Society. The goal per person is $100. Any questions talk to Matt Gray who is our Team Captain, or call Erika Lindwall at the VCSC x6644.

Service Opportunities:

  1. Friday, February 18th the Houdini Museum needs volunteers to help set up and serve at the reception they are having called "Music at the Museum." There are two shifts, one from 7 am-9 am and a second from 9 am-11 am. Please email or call Megan Comer if you are interested.
  2. The Children's Museum downtown is looking for volunteers to help in their new exhibit that is a Doll Museum with collectible dolls. The exhibit opens on Tuesday, Feb 8th and will be there for the rest of the year, so this could be a regular project, or a one-time project. Help is needed during all business hours which are, Tues-Fri 9-5, Sat 10-5, and Sun 12-5. Please call the VCSC x6644 if you are interested.
  3. The Harbor House, a domestic abuse program, needs volunteers to baby-sit on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5:45-8:15. This could be regular or a one-time opportunity. If you need help finding other service opportunities, there are several different projects going on through the Volunteer Center x6644.

For the birthday party this term, we decided to go ice skating at Memorial Park! We'll be going soon -- plan on 6th or 7th week.

We're going to have a sleepover/movie night/pajama party at either the library or the rec center on Thursday, February 10th. It's during reading period, so no one will have class on Friday. If you have any ideas for activities, snacks, etc. contact Krista at x7562!

The next meeting will be Monday, Jan. 31st at 6 pm in Downer Room C. Everyone is welcome! (Come on! Put in your two cents!)
