Lambda Sigma Meeting
January 3rd 2005
Meeting started at 8:15 p.m
Welcome Back everyone! Hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break!
We opened up the New Year with some ice cream thanks to Michelle Barlowe!!
We reviewed a little bit about what our success last year/term! We are very pleased with the results, so GREAT job to everyone!
We made 49 holiday cards and were able to send them out to 2 different nursing homes!
We raised $51 from caroling and that money was sent to Toys 4 Tots! Thanks to all who participated, it was a lot of fun!
The clothes drive is going well and we plan on keeping it up throughout this term as well!
We raised $174.78 dollars from the UNICEF boxes! With this money we were able to buy a well for a small village, feed 6 hungry children high protein biscuits for a month and immunize 6 children for life! CONGRATS!
Phil brought up a great idea to get this term started and that is tabling to get money for the Tsunami relief effort! We signed up to table this week, and hopefully we will do more for it next week. This will be a project going on for a while so any contributions we can make will be extremely helpful! Let all your friends know! We were thinking about setting a goal for a certain amount of money to raise, but we’ll decide on this next week after we see the response from tabling this week.
The need for posters when we table was brought up! We look extremely underrepresented compared to other groups tabling! Let’s work on it this term
The After-School program starts this week Thursday! We will have 6 kids ages 7-9, and we will be working with them from 3-5. Kelsey has the first couple of weeks set but please see her if you would like to help! It is essential that you fill out a criminal record inquiry so please see Kelsey if you have not done so (even if you are not sure whether or not you can participate).
We talked about making care packages this term and Linda brought up a good idea of including telephone cards in these packages because the soldiers eat up their minutes trying to call home. The Service committee will be spearheading this project.
Sara brought up possibly having a bone marrow donor registry drive. She will do more research on it and get back to us.
Singing valentines are also on the list to do this term! Dates have not been set because there may be a conflict with reading period. But the Fundraising committee will help us figure that out!
We are thinking about combining the penny drive and the Heifer project (both goals to accomplish this term) so as to raise money to buy an animal or two!
The cell-phone drive needs to happen soon as companies get returns from the holidays! So we will need to work on this ASAP!
Lastly we talked about working with businesses and we decided to put that off until the second half of the term.
That’s it for now! Please don’t hesitate to e-mail Emily if you have any ideas, suggestions, frustrations, jokes…you know!
Mandy handed out our t-shirts at the end of the meeting! YEA!! So please contact her if you didn’t get yours or be sure to come to the next meeting!
