Lambda Sigma Meeting
January 24th 2005
Meeting started at 8:16 p.m
We touched base on a number of different things, so be sure to read through the entire set of minutes!!!
Tami forward has decided to resign from our group
On Tuesday February 8th, we will have our 3rd convocation and as usual Lambda Sigma will be providing the ushers. They are expecting a large turnout and have requested at least 10 members. I have the following people scheduled to go:
10:45—Sara T, Emily, Phil, Brandi, Michelle, Mandi
Before 11—Meredith, Micha, Sara C, Veronica, Claire, Annemarie, Danielle, Claire, Stephanie
Peter Iverson from the volunteer center contacted Emily about a new program called SPOC (Solving Problems of our Community). He asked if we would be willing/interested to help at Pioneer Haven on Thursday nights to serve dinner to destitute men in the Appleton area. The time and number of people are unknown, so we will talk more about this in an upcoming meeting.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Publicity: Nothing to report
Standards: Everything is going well and you should have received your penalty hours! Keep the hours coming in!
Selection: The process is well underway with Micha spear-heading it all. As last year, the top 35% of the freshmen class (after term 1) will be eligible to apply. However, they will only be able to retain their eligibility if their GPA stays above a 3.0 after term 2. Also the letter being sent out will have e-mail addresses of certain individuals as well as links to our homepage which has everyone’s e-mail address. They will be told to feel free to ask any of us questions about Lambda Sigma! (Emily says talk about it positively! ) If anyone is willing to help out with the selection process, please talk to Micha IMMEDIATELY!!!
Service: Our good-will box is full again!! YEA!!! Be prepared to decorate boxes next week to collect newspapers for the Humane society! Also, PLEASE help Kelsey out and sign up for the after-school program if you can! She shouldn’t have to beg us to get 4 people a week!! If you can do it…step up! Thanks to Dana, Danielle, and Bao who signed up for this week!
Fundraising: We have officially applied for the raffle license so as to host a raffle to raise money for the tsunami relief efforts. We will give the money to Doctors without Borders which is an organization that sends doctors from all over the world to places in dire need of their services. These doctors literally work for next to nothing and it will be a great organization to donate our money! A sign up sheet went around to have two individuals ask local businesses for donations. This SHOULD BE DONE BY READING PERIOD!!! The raffle will be held at the end of this term. UPDATE: we have roughly $375, and we are hoping for much more!!! (Our goal is 1500) KEEP WORKING!!
Social: Social committee will be working on organizing a fun event for our group! Any ideas or suggests please email Michelle!
Linda brought up another service opportunity in relation to the ABC house. This is a better chance house that is affiliated with Lawrence. It annually hosts a fundraiser in February which is a phone-a-thon. We expressed interest in helping out with this event, and Linda will let us know if any date/time is established.
Last but certainly not least, CONGRATULATIONS to our LAMB of the WEEK: Dana Leystra! She has done such a great job in connection with the after-school program! We really appreciate your efforts!!
