Lambda Sigma Meeting Minutes for October 1, 2001
Unexcused: Brian Payne
Jon V. made sheets for us to keep track of our service hours. They will be handed back to Jon at the end of the term.
Ushers needed for the October 9 convocation. Anyone interested should email Wenjie. Ushers will meet at the chapel at 10:15 am.
It was brought up that SOUP is having a team competition during Homecoming that Lambda Sigma could participate in. We decided that we might be to busy to commit to this event.
Wenjie and Linda will be going to convention at Texas A
& M!!!! Have fun!!
The Bjorklunden trip is November 9-11. There will be a second van leaving for people attending the Bobby McFerrin concert.
Jon V. talked about decisions made by the Standards Committee. It was decided that we will stick to the 5 to 1 hours of service for New Student Week, with the possibility of gaining unlimited hours. It was also decided that only the time that a person actually worked will be counted towards service hours, meaning that travel time, etc. will not count.
Wenjie spoke about a letter she received about a campus-wide effort to raise money for disaster relief in New York. There will be a meeting discussing this idea on October 7 at 7:30 pm. Some members also thought it would be a good idea if we did a service project on our own to raise money for the cause.
“Improvement Committee” dinner: This Thursday there will be a dinner at 5:15 pm in Downer F. This is an informal meeting for the committee chairmen, but all are invited to bring ideas for improvement in the chapter. The next dinner will be October 25 at the same time and place.
Amy F. said that some high school students were interested in getting service hours before applying to college and thought that it would be great if we invited them to join in some of our service projects.
Wenjie asked if anyone had ideas for a Halloween activity.
Ideas for this included having trick or treating door to door on campus, where the floors of each dorm provide candy. Another idea was having a haunted house, which could be a fundraiser.
Amy B. brought up the idea of adopting a highway. It would be something that we could start now and would continue with groups that follow us. The highway would have to be cleaned at least three times between April and November.
Linda asked is anyone knew anything about two boxes that students are missing.
We received our pins and certificates!! Yeah!
It was brought up that we should try to make an agenda before meetings so that meetings run much more smoothly. If a committee meets and wants to bring up something at the meeting, the chairman should let Wenjie know ahead of the meeting.
The next meeting will be Monday, October 8 at 8:00 pm in the Sage Lounge.
Have a great week everyone!! Hope first term classes are treating you well.
Sincerely,
Krissa Matthews
